Return as the Prodigal son | The New Times

When I returned home after a month and a half in a hospital and rehabilitation center, you can imagine that it was very nice to come home. When I got home I thought: what can I do now? I liked to be busy and so now I was looking for something to do. Old habits are hard to break. For example, the local supermarkt C1000 (in 2014) was converted to Jumbo and I suggested to the owners to follow this as a kind of reality series. While recording that series I came across a nice quote:

“A changing supermarket, To consciously regard food and all related aspects is increasingly becoming important.”

Interesting, I thought, because Oprah Winfrey and Eckhart Tolle often talked about becoming more aware too. They are two great sources of inspiration for me. So this ‘becoming more aware’ is not just talk, but the observant person can actually see this in the world. When I got home I had enough time to consciously reflect on the question: What are we all doing here on this earth? And what am I actually doing here? Recently I interviewed a fellow villager (Lambert van Tiel) who gave a nice insight into this:

“The interchange of farming land had great economic benefits. From small scale, it had to become large scale. We haven’t dones this consciously. But now we have to return to small scale. (for several reasons with regards to the ecosystem.) ”

So there’s something about becoming aware, but we haven’t done it consciously? Did it sneak in unconsciously? I still felt a bit confused and lost…

Because of the fact I had always been actively involved in Catholic faith after my confirmation, I was well acquainted with the Bible and its stories. When I watched a lecture by Jan Bommerez, a number of puzzle pieces came together for me.

Is this what is happening worldwide? We are estranged from our nature and need to return to it as the prodigal son? Suddenly all problems and crises are seen in a different light. That’s also what the next person I interviewed in 2020 also discovered.

This means I need to start learning, how do I deal with the earth, with that other person and with myself? Am I taking care of it or is it a battle of attrition? Before the accident I experienced I always felt exhausted. Now I am learning to take good care of myself and increasingly others and the planet. I’m not there yet, but the return has begun: a new destination beckons: Destiny’s Calling.
